Instagram wasn't removing the Photos and DM from its servers
A security researcher found Instagram retained Private direct messages and Photos on its servers long after he deleted them, he was awarded a $6,000 bug bounty after he found that bug.
Independent security researcher Saugat Pokharei found that his delete data from more than a year ago was still stored on Instagram servers and can be downloaded using the company's data download tools.
Instagram says this was due to a bug in its system and that it's now fixed. They awarded a $6,000 bug bounty for highlighting the problem.
